Research blog: Commercial Conventions

I am doing a Louis Vuitton commercial. In these commercials, it usually displays a model casually walking, driving, or even posing. There are also a few commercials where the models complete different types of body movements to emphasize the products that are being worn around them.

  • They usually have the model that is in the commercial wear trendy outfits. The outfits range from floral bright dresses to black denim jeans. It all relies on the setting of the commercial.
  • The settings are often bright and relaxing. It can be a background of complete white which they use to add more attention towards the models. It also can be set at the beach where the actor can walk across the shore with the sound of either the waves of the water crashing against the land or smoothing music playing in the background.
  • The models appear to be perfect because of their well done make-up and their fashion outfits. The make-up is done naturally so that the models are seen as unblemished.

  • The props that can be seen in the commercials are Louis Vuitton hand-bags, suitcases, hats, watches, and etc.
  • Louis Vuitton commercials always appear to be filmed during the day. The lighting comes from the sun which they sometimes use to give off a cool affect because of the glare. The sun rays are used to give off a natural sun kissed filter.
  • The conventions and codes in Louis Vuitton commercials incorporates the italicized, serif, capitalized L that is mashed together with an capitalized V that is in the same font. Their mission statement is to "embody unique savior-faire" and "to be synonymous with both elegance and creativity". Louis Vuitton often uses the persuasion tool pathos. They try to get the audience to believe that buying one of their products will bring confidence and self love towards them. They succeed to do this by presenting models in the commercials who seem to be enjoying and relaxing in reality with their many Louis Vuitton products.
